What is a B Condition?

B Condition on a heavy vehicle licence restricts the holder to driving vehicles equipped with:

• Automatic or synchromesh gearboxes.

The licence holder cannot drive vehicles fitted with Crash/Roadranger (double clutching) gearboxes.

 

Steps to Remove a B Condition

1. Learn to Drive a Crash/Roadranger Gearbox Vehicle:

   • Enrol in training to operate vehicles with a Crash/Roadranger gearbox.

   • Training is provided in a Class HR vehicle.

2. Complete Training:

   • The number of hours required depends on your experience; there are no minimum hours.

   • Training continues until you meet the assessment standard.

3. Pass the Driving Test:

   • The driving test is conducted per RMS regulations and video-recorded (as required by RMS).

   • The assessment is based on the HVCBA criteria.

4. Assessment Criteria:

   • Start, move off, shut down, and secure.

   • Manage steering.

   • Manage gears.

   • Manage brakes.

   • Manage accelerator.

   • Create & maintain crash avoidance space.

   • Protect crash avoidance space.

   • Follow road rules and directions.

5. Certification and Licence Update:

   • Once you pass the assessment, the B Condition will be removed from your licence.
